South Korea is in talks with the United States to deploy U.S. strategic assets on the Korean peninsula, an unnamed South Korean military official said Jan. 7, Reuters reported. The report comes a day after North Korea said it successfully tested a hydrogen nuclear device. U.S. President Barack Obama spoke with his South Korean counterpart, Park Geun-hye, about possible options for response. The military official declined to provide details about what assets may be deployed. One possibility is the U.S. proposal to deploy a controversial new anti-ballistic missile system.
