Two French special forces troops reportedly died after Islamist militants shot down the Libyan National Army helicopter they were riding in near Benghazi on July 17, unidentified officials in Libya said, AP reported July 19. No one riding in the helicopter survived the crash, the officials said. The French Defense Ministry refused to comment on the crash, saying it does not give out information about its special operations forces. Five years after the fall of longtime ruler Moammar Gadhafi, Libya is awash with guns and home to many rival armed groups, including a franchise of the Islamic State.
